Montalcino, Brunello and the media

Brunello di Montalcino frequently ends up on the pages of newspapers, in specialist guides or on Italian and the world’s websites. After all, it is a prestigious, famous wine and the town is part of Val d’Orcia, an incredibly beautiful area. Today there is an online newspaper, but as far back as the 1800’s, conservative papers, church periodicals and socialist publications flourished, often printed by the historic Stella Typography located opposite Palazzo Tamanti. In addition to political articles, readers of Montalcino’s newspapers would also find gossip, controversies and many articles about awards won by the area’s wine producers at home and abroad, along with adverts for wines and wine-making products. So Montalcino and its wine were already featured in the media over two centuries ago, although obviously to a lesser and geographically more limited extent than now. But this laid the groundwork for a great future which then arrived – and the story continues…
